What do I do if my microphone is not working?
If using Windows
- If your headset has a Mute button, make sure it isn't active.
- Make sure that your microphone or headset is connected correctly to your computer.

Make sure that your microphone or headset is the system default recording device. Here's how to do this in Windows 10:
- Select Start, then select Settings > System > Sound.
- In Input, ensure your microphone is selected in Choose your input device.
- To test your microphone, speak into it and check Test your microphone to make sure Windows is hearing you.

Check for updates
- Select Start, then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for updates.
- If you see the option to View optional updates, select it to see if there are updates available for your camera.
- Allow available updates to install, then restart your device when it's ready.

Restart your PC
If you haven't restarted your device since the camera stopped working, you should do so.
Select Start, then select Power > Restart.
(Waking up your device from sleep isn't the same thing as a restart.)

Check your antivirus software
In your antivirus software settings, look for settings that block access to your microphone or permission to use your microphone. For help, visit your antivirus software company’s website.

Try a different USB port
if you're using an external microphone, try using it with a different USB port on your device first

If using a Mac
- If your headset has a Mute button, make sure it isn't active.

Check for apps using the microphone simultaneously
The microphone is turned on automatically by apps that use it. Only one app can utilize the microphone at a time. Make sure you’re not being denied access to the microphone because some other app is using it.

Update your software
Make sure that your software is up to date. Perform an update.

Test your microphone with a different browser or app.
Try to use the microphone in another app or in another browser. For example, try the camera in FaceTime or Google Chrome.
